May 2026 Membership Meeting

May 2026 Membership Meeting

We had a long Membership Meeting on Saturday, but we got a lot of work done. Here are some highlights:

We had 16 members show up to exercise their right to vote. There was much lively discussion, all points of view were heard and everyone had a chance to speak.

Here is more information from Saturday’s meeting:

Announcements:

  • Post 1 members Joan P. and Terry D. attended Department Legion College April 23-26.  Students received instruction on Post and District Operations, The Four Rules of an American Legion Program, Post Revitalization, and Media and Communications, among other subjects.  Students also worked together in assigned groups to problem solve mock issues assigned by the instructors and gained valuable knowledge and skills that will benefit them and the American Legion in the years to come. Well done Terry and Joan!

  • The committee looking into renting space at Post 99 gave a brief report to say they met informally at the pancake breakfast on April 25 and had a brief tour of Post 99. No decisions were made. The first meeting of the full committee will be held after the 5th District Convention in June, with a report to the membership due in August.

  • 3rd Vice Commander Amy Gillette reported she and 1st Vice Commander Chris Sam attended the National Commander's Dinner at the Clearwater American Legion Post 323 on April 21. Dinner of either chicken or beef was served and Commander Wiley complimented Gillette on her youthful appearance.

Upcoming Events:

  • JROTC Awards Ceremony & Luncheon this Wednesday May 6, 12-2pm- here at the post.

  • Cemetery Clean up Day at the cemetery next Saturday the 9th @10am. This is to get the cemetery spruced up prior to Memorial Day. Lunch will be served. Please watch the website, Facebook page and text group for upcoming info and details. Counts as 2 hours under the Volunteer points program.

  • Memorial Day Program at the Soldiers and Pioneers Cemetery on May 25, 10am 12:00pm. Luncheon afterwards at Post 1.

As of today, we have a full squad of 7 squad members for Memorial Day. We have no alternates, so hopefully no one drops out.

1st Vice Commander Sam reported 254 volunteer hours for our Consolidated Post Report

Post Service Officer Report

I am seeing increased contacts for the Post Service Officer program. At our last meeting which was in March, I reported 3 contacts for 2026, I can now report 5 contacts for 2026. 1 of our 2026 contacts resulted in a contribution in the amount of $500 to help a Veteran fix their vehicle. Most of these contacts come to us via the email account associated with our website “contact us” feature, so I attribute the increase to our increased online presence thanks to the website and our Facebook page. Most of the contacts fade away once I start asking questions, which tells me most contacts are looking for some easy money. At this point I have not had to send out the questionnaire I developed to assess a request for assistance.

-Chris Sam, Post Service Officer
