Post 1 Commander visits Girls State

I had the opportunity this week to spend time at Girls State during a simulated "town" voting day. The students took on roles as voting judges, voters, and candidates, participating in an immersive civics experience designed for high school juniors and seniors.

Becky Nelson from Post 1 Auxiliary graciously showed me around the facility. The program includes dedicated spaces representing different cities, as well as an auditorium used for conventions. Participants also spend a day at the Minnesota State Capitol, further enriching their understanding of government in action.

It was especially inspiring to see Becky’s group include a returning student serving as a mentor to others. She is preparing to attend college to study political science—an excellent example of how this program helps students build a strong foundation for their and our future.

Overall, this was a meaningful and rewarding experience. I am grateful to the Post 1 Auxiliary for the opportunity to observe Girls State in action.
