Department Legion College is scheduled for April 23-26 2026 at Camp Ripley, MN. Tuition is $200. Registration deadline is March 15 and you must take the Basic Training online training module before you can enroll in Legion College.
Post 1 has sent 4 students to Department Legion College, to include 2nd Vice Sammi Hollinger (Class of ’25) and myself (Class of ’24). I enjoyed Legion College so much I became a member of the Department Training Committee and will be presenting at this year’s Legion College. (Post Revitalization and Media and Communications). If you cannot attend Legion College, I encourage you to at least take the online Basic Training module. It is self-guided, and though there are tests for each section, students get unlimited chances to pass the tests, which is to say everyone passes!
More about Department Legion College can be found HERE
A word about training at Post 1-Post 1 views training for our members as an investment in the future of the Post. As such, Post 1 will pay the fee for any Legion related training or events our members attend. For example, if a member attends Legion College, the Post will pay the $200 tuition. Mileage and meals are on the member.

2nd Vice Commander Hollinger’s Report
The website is continuing to make adjustments and we are often giving Jennifer items to post under the Latest News or the calendar. Please go to the website and give feedback to either Chris Sam or myself. We want to hear what you do or do not like about the site; it is for the members of our entire Legion Family. Chris and I are always reaching out to the Sons and the AUX for input as well as our members.
I am working on a project to update the current By-Laws and hope to have a working document to present to the members at the February meeting. More to come.
I have also started a project of creating SOP's for everything we do, such as Memorial Day, Picnic, JROTC day, etc. I am trying to capture every item that needs to be done and the date it needs to happen. If anyone would like to assist me with that, I would greatly appreciate it.
Mike Krogan, Membership Chair
The Post 1 Family Picnic will be Saturday, August 1 , 2026 at Wabun Shelter A - 10am to 3pm as usual. No new requirements from the Park Board were noted.
I talked to Bob about getting contestants from Scout Troop 1 involved in the Oratory Contest.
Also, Chris and Terence indicated they would like to take over Post 1 membership going forward. I will continue managing the office, representing Post 1 when required, managing the Viking tickets program, and will be attending to Housing Board matters through August 31 2026.
